Sharon Wasden Hanson was born in Enterprise, Alabama, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Painting from The University of Alabama. She then continued to expand her academic and creative practice at the San Francisco Art Institute where she earned her Master of Fine Arts in Design + Technology.
She was formerly an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Jacksonville State University (JSU) in Jacksonville, Alabama, where she played an integral role in laying the foundation for the Master of Fine Arts in Visual Communication and Design program—the first of its kind in the state of Alabama. Before accepting her position at JSU, Sharon was an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Broward College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Her paintings, video and/or audio compositions have been exhibited both nationally and internationally—highlights include Technology, Nature, and Other Matters at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California; the traveling exhibition Moving Images at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, Seoul, South Korea, and San Francisco, California; Beautiful Moving Images at Artists’ Television Access in San Francisco, California; and at The Annexe in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
